Daniela Alvarez-Vargas

Daniela Alvarez-Vargas was a Graduate Student Researcher at the University of California, Irvine.
Daniela is a postdoctoral research fellow at Colorado State University in the Human Development and Family Studies department. As a developmental psychologist and methodologist, she works with teachers and families to design and evaluate culturally sustaining learning practices. Daniela is a scholar committed to dismantling exclusionary practices in mathematics education and addressing the marginalization of immigrant families, low-income families, and families of color. She aims to inform teaching practices, develop tools and activities, and influence policies that affirm cultural wealth and identities to promote meaningful mathematics learning. Her research has been published in the Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology, Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, and Journal of Research on Educational Effectiveness.

Before joining CSU, Daniela was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Denver Morgridge College of Education in the Marsico Institute for Early Learning. She completed her PhD at the University of California, Irvine School of Education with a focus on Human Development in Context, and she holds a BA in Developmental Psychology and Statistics from Florida International University.
